We're very excited about the release of the 2015 Toyota Prius. As of now, there is no set date for when it will be released,. However, rumors are circling that maybe it will be released for 4th quarter of 2014. We'll keep our fingers crossed!
We have been able to get our hands on some rendered and detailed photos from
Car and Driver of the 2015 Toyota Prius.
"The most notable feature, of course, is the radically low nose with no upper air intake, and a horizontal headlamp treatment that takes Toyota’s angry-goose face to a more sinister-looking place." -
Car and Driver.
What are your thoughts? Are you as excited as we are yet?
The biggest change, however, is within the motor.
In a Prius the electric motor is called a Power Control Unit (PCU) the PCU receives energy from the vehicle as it turns and drives, and converts that energy into power for driving and saving gasoline.
The new 2015 Prius PCU unit will be made of Silicon Carbide (SiC). In short what the SiC does is allows the PCU to do 3 things.
1. Be more efficient by not allowing as much heat to escape in the process, and it is quick to turn on and off.
2. Allows it to weight less and allow for more space for the same amount of power.
3. Allows for the reaction of the gas pedal to engine to be quicker and more responsive with less lag from electric motor.
